Rehabilitation, Your Way
Rehabilitation does not have to mean doing things the usual way.
At Equal Adventure, we believe people should have a meaningful say in how they take part, what they work towards and what support they need. Our Adventure Rehabilitation Services use a self-directed approach, helping each person identify the adjustments, equipment, support and approaches that can make adventure and outdoor participation more achievable.
Whether you are returning to an activity, developing confidence after a period away, adapting to a change in ability, or exploring something completely new, we work with you to find solutions that fit you.
Your Goals Come First
Everyone's journey is different.
We start by understanding what you want to do — not simply what others think you should be able to do.

Self-Directed Support
Our approach is based on collaboration, choice and practical problem-solving.
Rather than starting with a fixed programme, we explore:
What do you want to do?
Understanding your goals, interests and aspirations.
What is making participation difficult?
Looking at the physical, environmental, practical, emotional and social factors that may affect participation.
What could make it possible?
Exploring adjustments, equipment, techniques, communication approaches and different ways of participating.
What works for you?
Testing, adapting and refining solutions based on your experience and feedback.
The aim is not to remove every challenge. It is to help you find ways of participating that work for you.
Specific Adjustments for Individual Needs
Sometimes a small adjustment can make a significant difference. Our team can help explore and develop individual adjustments around areas such as:
- Equipment - Exploring adaptive or modified equipment, positioning solutions, supports and alternative ways of using equipment.
- Physical Access - Considering transfers, positioning, movement, stability, reach and other physical requirements within an activity.
- Communication - Adapting how information, instructions and choices are provided so that people can understand, communicate and participate more effectively.
- Environment - Considering the activity environment, terrain, weather, space, access points and other environmental factors that may influence participation.
- Confidence & Participation - Recognising that confidence can develop through participation. We can explore gradual involvement, appropriate challenge, choice and supportive approaches that allow people to build experience at their own pace.
- Activity Adaptation - Sometimes the best solution is not changing the person or the equipment — it is changing how the activity is approached.
