Empowering You to Explore, Participate and Thrive
Everyone should have the opportunity to take part in activities that matter to them. But sometimes, finding the right support, equipment or approach can make participation challenging.
At Equal Adventure, we believe that support should start with the individual, not a fixed programme.
Through our Self-Directed Support approach, we work collaboratively with you to understand what you want to achieve, explore what might be getting in the way and identify practical solutions that help you participate in ways that work for you.
Whether you want to explore outdoor activities, try something new, develop your skills or become more independent, we focus on finding possibilities that match your interests, needs and aspirations.
A Person-Centred Approach
Our approach is built around four key questions:
1. What do you want to do?
1. What do you want to do?
We start by listening to you.
We want to understand your interests, goals, ambitions and the experiences you would like to have. Your choices and priorities guide the process.
2. What is making participation difficult?
We explore the barriers that may be affecting your participation. These could be physical, environmental, practical, emotional or social.
Understanding these challenges helps us identify where support or adjustments may be needed.

Finding Possibilities, Not Just Solutions
We recognise that everyone's circumstances and ambitions are different. There is no single approach that works for everyone.
The aim is not to remove every challenge, but to explore opportunities, build confidence and help you find ways of participating that work for you.
By combining your experience and knowledge with our practical understanding of inclusive activities, adaptive equipment and problem-solving, we can explore what might be possible.

Working Together to Make It Happen
Self-Directed Support is about working together, sharing ideas and finding practical ways forward.
At Equal Adventure, we bring experience in inclusive outdoor activities, adaptive equipment and practical problem-solving. We work alongside individuals to explore different options and identify approaches that support their participation.
Depending on your goals, this could include:
- Exploring suitable activities and opportunities
- Identifying equipment or adaptations that may help
- Trying different techniques and approaches
- Making adjustments to support comfort, confidence and independence
- Finding alternative ways to take part when traditional approaches do not work.
Your experiences, choices and feedback remain central throughout the process. We want to help you make informed decisions and find approaches that reflect what matters to you.

Building Confidence, Choice and Independence
Self-Directed Support is not simply about finding equipment or making adjustments. It is about creating opportunities for people to have greater choice and control over how they participate.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop new skills and take part in experiences that are meaningful to them.
Through collaboration, experimentation and ongoing learning, we aim to:
- Encourage greater independence and confidence
- Support individual choice and decision-making
- Open up opportunities to try new activities
- Develop practical approaches that respond to individual needs
- Create more inclusive opportunities for participation.
Every person's journey is different. Our role is to listen, support and explore possibilities with you, helping turn ideas and ambitions into achievable experiences.
